What can I expect during my visit?

Dr. Becca will perform an in-depth intake which will include questions about current and past pregnancies, overall health, and what your health goals are during this pregnancy. Chiropractic adjustments help immensely to control pregnancy related discomfort, but there are also things that can be done at home to help manage symptoms and strengthen mom’s body in preparation for delivery and caring for a newborn. Dr. Becca discusses these, and addresses any concerns the expecting parents may have. After the intake, she performs an in-depth examination. Since there are really 2 patients when treating pregnant patients, this examination includes both Mom and baby. After about 26 weeks gestation, pregnancy visits will include measuring Mom’s belly to see how well baby is growing, releasing the tension on the broad ligaments to relieve that ‘down low discomfort’, checking baby’s position within the uterus (head down, breech, sideways, or anything in between), and, if necessary, performing a special adjustment to help achieve optimal fetal positioning.

Do Chiropractors help turn breech babies?

Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the ICPA, developed a technique (aptly named the Webster Technique), that has been shown to facilitate neuro-biomechanical function of the pelvis and SI joint. When the pelvis and SI joints are functioning properly, optimum fetal positioning is possible. A research study published in 2002, showed a 92% success rate in babies turning to a vertex position following chiropractic care. The ICPA recommends that pregnant women receive chiropractic care throughout pregnancy to achieve pelvic balance, giving babies a better chance of moving into a correct position for birth and avoiding complications associated with improper fetal position. Dr. Becca is certified to perform the Webster Technique and has had great success helping mothers have safe and successful births.
